In Making for STEM Success, Meredith Farkas does a great job of highlighting the importance libraries in creating a community of tinkerers, as a means of solving a national problem. She cites facts about US children underperforming in science and math compared to their international counterparts, and also the underrepresentation of women and minorities in STEM career fields. She highlights what many libraries are doing to remedy this problem, including the Fayetteville Free Library. Give it a read!
